Feline Geriatric (cats over eight years of age)
In order for your healthy pet to be as protected as possible, we recommend this list of services that you may provide for your pet. We recommend these services so that your pet may enjoy the longest and fullest life possible. Other medical conditions may dictate variations in these recommendations. 
 
Physical Examination Check organ systems, skin, teeth and gums. 
 
Feline Geriatric Screen Particular attention is directed toward early detection of kidney, liver, and thyroid disease as well as diabetes and cancer. This is achieved through blood tests, urinalysis, and x-rays. Early detection is the key to long, happy, healthy lives. 
 
Feline Leukemia/Feline Immunodeficiency Test Geriatric cats should screened on an as-needed basis based on exposure. 
 
Dental care Periodontal infection is common in senior pets. Keeping teeth and gums healthy can greatly extend the length and quality of life.
 
Check stool sample for intestinal parasites including hookworms, roundworms, whipworms, coccidia, and giardia.
 
Deworm as per recommendation of the Texas Department of Health
 
Flea & Tick Prevention Attention can alleviate problems associated with flea infestation including the development of flea allergic dermatitis.  Products we carry are Advantage Multi or Advantage.
 
Feline Distemper Vaccination Annual revaccination with a single dose is recommended.
 
Feline Leukemia Vaccination Annual revaccination with a single dose is recommended.
 
Rabies Vaccination This annual vaccination is required by the Texas Department of Health.
 
Heartworm Prevention Provide monthly heartworm prevention to protect your cat from heartworm disease. Ask about Advantage Multi or Feline Heartgard.
 
Permanently Identify by implanting a microchip.
 
Neutering  We recommend neutering all animals not intended for breeding purposes. 
 
Nutrition Seniors should consume high quality food that is formulated specifically for older cats. We recommend the nutrition provided by Hill's Prescription Diets & Science Diets.
Be certain that any over-the-counter products (shampoos, etc.) are labeled for use on cats.
