Protected Pet List
Canine Adult (dogs between six months and eight years)
In order for your healthy pet to be as protected as possible, we recommend this list of services that you may provide for your pet. We recommend these services so that your pet may enjoy the longest and fullest life possible. Other medical conditions may dictate variations in these recommendations.
Adult Blood Screen tests organ function, blood counts, and can reveal some types of cancer. Blood Screens may reveal problems that are not obvious on physical examination. Dental care Keeping teeth and gums healthy can greatly extend the length and quality of life. Heartworm Screening and Prevention Purchase monthly heartworm prevention, such as Advantage Multi or Sentinel. These preventatives protect dogs against hookworms, roundworms, and whipworms as well as heartworms. Dogs should be screened for heartworms annually. Rabies Vaccination This annual vaccination is required by the Texas Department of Health. Canine Distemper-Parvo Vaccination Annual revaccination with a single dose is recommended. Leptospirosis Vaccination can be added to the distemper-parvo combination booster and should be given to all healthy dogs as it is a human health risk. Exceptions to this would be dogs with previous vaccination reaction. Leptospirosis is a bacteria passed in the urine of wildlife and livestock and affects liver and kidney function. Check stool sample for intestinal parasites including hookworms, roundworms, whipworms, coccidia, and giardia. Deworm when necessary Flea & Tick prevention Attention can alleviate problems associated with flea infestation including the development of flea allergic dermatitis. Nutrition Healthy adult dogs should consume high quality food that is formulated specifically for adult dogs. Many conditions are best treated with special diets. We recommend the nutrition provided by Hill's Prescription Diets & Science Diets. Neutering We recommend neutering all animals not intended for breeding purposes. Permanently identify your pet by implanting a microchip. Under Special Circumstances: Kennel Cough Vaccination - if your dog will be in close confinement with other animals. Rattlesnake Vaccination – if your dog will have exposure to rattlesnakes. |
